Our Story
In the late '80s, Joel Aguilar, Roberto Luca, and Raz Erasmo Reyes forged a bond in Los Angeles Central Juvenile Hall, each carrying challenging sentences: Joel sentenced to Life Without parole, Roberto 15 years to Life, and Raz also serving several years of incarceration in level four prisons, including Pelican Bay.
After decades of serving their time, they re-entered the outside world. Joel’s commitment to reform, continued advocating for change post-Life Without parole and pursued his Bachelor's degree. Roberto, determined to break the cycle, became a force in community initiatives and worked his way up to Director of Programs at Mass Liberation. Raz’s entrepreneurial spirit, pursued his passion for construction, proving the past doesn't define the future. Their story, born in adversity, from juvenile hall to living impactful lives continued to inspire others on paths of redemption.
In 2023, they united to create RAMP LA, the Restorative Academic Mentorship Program, to address the critical need for support, offering reentry housing for youth returning to society. RAMP LA, a testament to their commitment to positive change, desire to provide youth opportunity and living amends, stands as a beacon for the transformative power of resilience and unity.
